The story is well documented: as one of the most influential acts on the Aussie alt scene, The Butterfly Effect quickly rose to prominence and were undoubtedly instrumental in paving the way for bands bringing heavier music to the mainstream masses. But behind the ongoing successes, three killer albums and whirlwind worldwide tours was a group laden with internal struggles, resulting in Clint Boge leaving the group in 2012, and TBE officially calling it quits in 2016 after an ongoing hiatus.
The legacy of The Butterfly Effect (or 'Butters' to the fans) lived on and the music world moved on - or so we thought, until some public reminiscing on social media from the band ramped up, speculation ran wild and the group finally answered the prayers of their diehard fans: a 2018 national reunion tour with the quintessential lineup of Clint Boge, Glenn Esmond, Kurt Goedhart and Ben Hall.. Within hours of the announcement, multiple shows sold out and the boys expanded their reach to include metro and regional areas, with stellar supports Rival Fire and Osaka Punch joining the fold.
With another week left to go on this truly momentous tour, questions still circle around what's next for the Butters boys. But before the shows wrap up, The Soundcheck's Tiana Speter sat down on the second night of their Sydney leg with bass-man Glenn Esmond to chat favourites, fans and how a group who were never-ever-EVER getting back together ended up pulling off the most anticipated reunion of all time.
