SINGLE REVIEW: Fake (REDHOOK)

SINGLE Fake // ARTIST RedHook

The unstoppable RedHook are coming in absolutely smouldering and swinging to cap off a golden run for 2019 with their explosive new tune Fake roaring into the world late last week.

Reading like the diary of a solid overachiever, RedHook have this year alone found themselves playing Download UK, BIGSOUND, Halloween Hysteria and a heap of supports alongside Sevendust, Hands Like Houses, Ocean Grove (and on the very near horizon, Cog and The Amity Affliction). And in true RedHook fashion, the Sydney group are closing out 2019 with a riotous bang, busting out a sonic hadouken in the form of new tune Fake which officially dropped last Friday.

Kicking off with stern control, frontwoman Emmy Mack flits between languid and lashing as she menacingly whispers, chants and searingly soars across spitfire riffs and droning soundscapes. Boasting yet another showing of balanced writing and ballistic ear-candy, Fake finds this bunch at their fiery best, calling to mind the jaunty stylings of Ocean Grove with the RedHook crew's own signature brew of blistering rap, rock, electro and pop mayhem bubbling strong in the mix.

Coming to life following a negative experience for the group on tour, Fake ain't just all about that spicy sound - rather, it's a high-flying ode to the moment when the facade drops from the face you once admired.

"This song is actually a bit of an in-joke. We wrote it as a vent session following a negative experience we had on tour. I actually never expected to release it - but we had so much fun playing it live & ended up being so stoked on how the recording turned out that it just felt right. It’s a hostile little smartass of a tune, inspired by that awkward moment when you realise someone you always looked up to and admired isn’t all that they seem." - Emmy Mack, vocals

Celebrating the brand new tune with their upcoming shows with Aussie prog icons Cog this December before hitting up supports with Amity and showings at Download Festival in Sydney and Melbourne next year, Fake is an authentic continuation of RedHook's phenomenal ascension in the music world, and one more than capable of carrying them into a brand new decade armed to the sonic teeth.

REDHOOK'S NEW TUNE FAKE IS OUT IN THE WORLD NOW, AND YOU'LL HAVE PLENTY OF CHANCES TO CATCH THIS KILLER LOT LIVE IN ACTION OVER THE NEXT FEW MONTHS. TOUR INFO BELOW. FOR ALL OTHER REDHOOK INFO HEAD HERE.
