MUSIC NEWS: MofoIsDead combine poignant rock and plaintive fervour in a brand new tune out today.


Ending the year from hell with a poignant pivot, Brisbane rockers MofoIsDead today unleash a sturdy ode to accountability and oozing riffage with their brand new track The Gospel of Engadine which unleashed into the world today.

 

Following on from the release of the trio's brawny track Displacer back in April, The Gospel of Engadine deviates somewhat from the traditional MofoIsDead trope, notably wearing its languid charm beneath sturdy rhythmics and the powerfully wistful vocal stylings of frontman Paul Galagher. And while this latest Mofo track subtly swarms into swaying rock territory (and a very un-Mofo major key), there's a whole lot more beneath the surface of this new ditty, and its timing a year on from Australia's horrific bushfires last summer is definitely no coincidence.



“The opening riff started as a joke to put a smile on our tired drummer's face, but we all dug it so much we kept jamming it, and 10 minutes later we had our first song ever based around a major key. Whilst showering later that night the chorus melody just popped into my head. At the time it seemed like the nation's disdain for our PM's disgraceful handling of the bushfires - opting to holiday in Hawaii while volunteers risked their lives - had been unjustly forgotten amidst the COVID madness, so I felt the urge to pen a little reminder about that time Scotty From Marketing told us all that one of the most devastating disasters in Australia's history will serve as a backdrop for a cricket test match" - Paul Galagher, vocals/guitar



Readily showcasing a whole new stroke to the MofoIsDead brush, The Gospel of Engadine is the perfect soundtrack to a late-night campfire vino or two while also painstakingly shining a wistful light on one of the most devastating chapters in Australia's history (and one readily obscured by the global pandemic that chewed up the media for the majority of 2020). Whether relaxed rock is your jam or you're a diehard Mofo fan, The Gospel of Engadine is a thoughtful and thoroughly charming outing, and an extremely nuanced note to end on after a year from absolute hell (and PS - if you're wondering what the Sydney suburb of Engadine has to do with all of this, just type "Engadine Maccas 1997" into your trusty internet search engine...).
