GOOD THINGS FESTIVAL INTERVIEW: Bill Kelliher (MASTODON)

The countdown to Good Things Festival in 2024 is well and truly on, with the Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane events set to ignite on Friday 6 December, Saturday 7 December and Sunday 8 December respectively.

Helmed by headliners Korn, the Good Things lineup boasts a horde of old and new favourites, spanning local and international acts from across the heavy and alternative scenes that truly offers something for everyone; and this year, Sydney's Centennial Park festival date will also be a 16+ event for the first time ever.

Ahead of the festival and impending horde of headline sideshows on the extremely near horizon, Good Things Festival has been running a series of videos bringing you all of the news and artist fun, with the weekly news segment All The Good Things and the official pre-festival interview series Good Things Brings bringing you chats directly with the artists themselves; and also helmed by The Soundcheck's Tiana Speter, aka yours truly speaking to you here.

If you're as pumped as I am on the lineup this year, you definitely won't wanna miss these chats from around the Good Things sphere, so I'll be sharing some of these official Good Things interviews with you here as we get closer and closer to the main event! You can also keep up to date and subscribe over at the official Good Things YouTube channel so you never miss an episode here, and you can keep an eye out on Instagram here and Facebook here as well.

First up today it's a Good Things Brings interview that I grabbed with Mastodon's Bill Kelliher.

Mastodon have racked up numerous accolades that transcend their sludge metal origins. Alongside collaborations with Game of Thrones, Adult Swim, and DC Comics, the Atlanta quartet finally took home a GRAMMY® Award after six career nods. 2021’s Hushed & Grim double-LP took meditations on grief and transformed them into moments of melodic mourning and raging bursts of energy.

For our chat, Bill and I chatted everything from his new ESP Royal Shiva through to Mastodon's recent 20th anniversary celebrations of Leviathan on the road with Lamb of God, the collab LOG track Floods of Triton, and a peek into what he listens to when he's not swinging his axe onstage. Grab a watch below and definitely don't miss this lot when they hit the Good Things stages next month!
