EXPECT THE UNEXPECTED WITH THE SWOONING NEW SELF-TITLED ALBUM FROM MELBOURNE ARTIST MUNRO MELANO PREMIERING TODAY ON THE SOUNDCHECK.
Emerging from a previous life spent as a social worker, weekend session muso and nighttime film composer (amongst writing for other artists), whimsical Melb artist Munro Melano sits in a misty sonic universe, populated by soft electronics, lush textures and lilting melodics that reach into moody, warm recesses.
And armed with two previous releases (independent EPs Running Round and Blue Veins), the very existence of his brand new self-titled album is in itself somewhat of a miracle, with the release postponed nearly three times to fit around Melano's film composition deadlines, with Melano also balancing his newfound fatherhood simultaneously:
"This album has sat on the edge of completion for a long time. We squeezed in sessions wherever we could – it was a labour of love... I’d be working till 4:30am on the album with the baby sleeping on my chest. Becoming a father is like growing new skin; everything feels different, including all this music that I’d spent years writing and recording." - Munro Melano
Sonically beguiling with its hypnotic pianos and Melano's placid-yet-powerful vocals, the album presents a deeply intimate venture that ebbs and flows between Radiohead-ready arrangements and modern, cinematic blooms that detail Melano's own personal experiences in deeply universal fashion:
"This album came out of years of big changes in my life. It starts with self doubt, moves through anger, grief, love and commitment, and then finishes with accepting life as it is. Looking back, I’ve grown with it." - Melano
From the whimsical (Cannonballs, Restart My Heart) to the orchestral (Throw And Let Go) and modern electronic (...Like A Woman Left Waiting), there's truly something for everyone with Melano's new release. Produced by long-time friend and collaborator Yen Nguyen (Mechanical Pterodactly) and recorded across multiple Victorian Studios, Melano's self-titled LP is ultimately a serene wonderland that'll carry you deep down the rabbithole to a plush and palatial universe that'll leave you wanting more.
